At a time when the climate change debate was firing up, leaders from within our community joined forces and pledged to establish the Hunter as Australia’s most energy and water efficient region.

Launched in April 2007, the Together Today initiative is all about showing people how to use energy and water more efficiently in their homes, at work and at school. Energy and water are precious resources and by becoming smarter in how we use them we can help the environment and save money at the same time.

Our Vision and Mission
To establish the Hunter as Australia’s most energy and water efficient region by providing a complete package of information, education, communication and action programs focussed on energy and water efficiency for the Hunter Region.

Our Goals
Together Today will engage the community via:
• Education, through all tiers of learning
• Media campaigns highlighting the positive actions taken by:
- the energy industry, to produce cleaner energy
- business and families to be energy and water efficient
- researchers within our community
• Assistance with the implementation of energy efficient strategies
• Development of community energy and water efficient champions.
Together Today will stimulate a market for energy and water efficient products by:
• Creating a community demand for products and services
• Creating support for businesses that are committed to energy and water efficiency
• Delivering media campaigns that enable member organisations to leverage off the Together Today brand.

Together Today is an exciting world-first, world-class environmental initiative. With the vision to transform the Hunter to create Australia’s most energy and water efficient region, Together Today will provide a complete package of information, education, communication and action programmes focussed on energy and water efficiency.

The Together Today campaign will position the Hunter as world leaders in energy and water efficient solutions, building on the region’s solid history in exporting.

Together Today Foundation Members invite everyone from kids to corporations to pledge their support. Through smart initiatives and technologies, along with a major collaborative commitment from all sectors of the community, their collective pledge is to make a positive difference for their environment, Together Today.

The collective impact of action across the community is measured on ClimateCam®. As the world’s first greenhouse gas speedometer, ClimateCam was created by Newcastle City Council in 2001 and measures the greenhouse gas emissions in the Newcastle local government area. Consumption data and the equivalent greenhouse emissions from electricity are updated hourly and reported online at ClimateCam.com and on the ClimateCam Billboard. ClimateCam provides the unique opportunity to create a world-class testing ground for energy and water smart activities, new products and services.
