Heat Lamps

Heat lamps provide excellent warmth in the bathroom during the colder months. But don't make the mistake of using these lamps to light the room. They are intended for heating only and use lots of energy. When installing heat lamps it's a good idea to make sure that heat lamps are on separate switches to room lighting so they are only turned on when needed. And make sure that the whole family, particularly the children, know the different purpose of the switches.

Shower Head

There's good news for those of us who enjoy a re-laxing shower. Modern, low flow shower heads are very different to their older style, water saving counter parts. These new low flow shower heads provide a great shower, can use up to 3 times less water than the older styles and can save up to $150 a year on water bills. That's a signifi-cant saving. And when showering consider lowering the temperature. Less hot water saves energy.

Toilet with Dual Flush

Toilets can use about 30% of the total water used in an average household. An older style single flush toilet uses up to 13 litres of water in one flush. That's a lot of water - almost 1.5 buckets worth. New, more water efficient dual flush toi-lets use only 6 litres for a full flush and 4 li-tres for a reduced flush. Compared to 13 litres that's an immense saving.

Bathroom Taps

Almost two-thirds of the water we use in the home is consumed in the bathroom. Bathroom taps on average supply water at about 13 litres per minute. It's easy to leave the tap on and the water flowing when washing our hands or cleaning our teeth. But to save on water consumption in the bathroom we should all remember to turn off the tap when you're not using it. It's easy to turn the tap back on when you're ready to rinse your mouth or hands, and you could be saving litres of water and lots of money. And remember when running the bath only fill it to the level and temperature you need. We can all make a difference by modifying our behaviour.
